Spearheaded by the E360, The Tilenga Train-the-Trainer programme was conducted on Monday 11th and Tuesday 12th November 2024 attracting nearly 20 lecturers as they explored industry-leading technologies and methodologies including; Advanced well construction and drilling technologies, Cementing equipment and techniques, Production optimization and enhancement strategies, Well intervention and workover methodologies, Petroleum geology and geophysics principles, Drilling simulation and modeling tools, Health, Safety, and Environment regulations best practices among others.
According to the Dean, School of Sciences, Dr. Alex Barakagira, the training was facilitated by an expert from Indonesia based EXPRO as part of PAU’s efforts aimed at building capacity, transfering knowledge, skills, and technology to Ugandan citizens, companies, and institutions.
“As you may have noticed, besides the Petroleum and Minerals Geoscience Lecturers, we also invited our Environment and Hospitality lecturers to this training session. The goal is to equip them with a deeper understanding of the strategies that stakeholders in the oil and gas industry plan to implement, in order to mitigate the environmental risks associated with oil and gas exploration,” said Dr. Alex Barakagira.
Dr. Barakagira emphasized the importance of maximizing national content in Uganda’s oil and gas value chain as he re-echoed the concept of learning, un-learning and re-learning by the teaching experts aimed at always being abreast with the contemporary knowledge.
Mr. Richard Kadde, a lecturer at Nkumba University who also doubles as the SPE Faculty Advisor, hailed the training as “pivotal” in advancing technical knowledge among tutors. “This will help build capacity among our staff, enabling us to relay industry-relevant content to our students,” He noted.
EXPRO’s experts facilitated the training, leveraging their expertise as a full-cycle energy services leader to equip the Lecturers especially the Petroleum and Minerals Geoscience tutors with resourceful and relevant content transferable to students.
“This will not only enhance our lecturers’ skills but also ensure that our students receive industry-relevant training, preparing them for the job market,” added Dr. Barakagira.
With this training, Nkumba University’s Petroleum and Minerals Geoscience who are under Natural Resources Department are poised to tailor content, suitable in preparing students for the industry tasks.
