Nkumba University community has been engulfed in grief following the sudden death of its star football player, Aaron Kikoyo.
The university management announced the devastating news on Twitter Thursday evening, describing Kikoyo’s passing as “a candle burning out” and a “heartbreaking” loss.
According to the university’s Head Coach, Dr. Bbosa Sulaiman, Kikoyo, a first-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Public Administration and Management (BPAM) on a long-distance program, died from injuries sustained when a wooden shelter collapsed on him at a construction site in Bukomero.
The 20-year-old midfielder was a key player in Nkumba University’s historic win in the Pepsi University Football League on April 20th, helping the Beach Boys secure a 3-1 victory over Ugandan Christian University at MTN Eric Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.
Loved by many, the young start is remembered as a vibrant, dedicated, and passionate individual who inspired those around him with his energy and enthusiasm.
The university management has expressed its deepest condolences to Kikoyo’s family, friends, and loved ones, saying, “May we find comfort in the memories we shared and may his legacy continue to inspire us to strive for excellence.”
As the university community comes to terms with this tragic loss, police has already embarked on investigating circumstances surrounding Kikoyo’s death.
