Dr. Taddeo Rusoke, a senior lecturer at Nkumba University received an award for his exceptional contributions to wildlife conservation in Uganda during the World Wildlife Day celebrations that took place on 3rd March 2024 in Kagorogoro, Kyenjojo District.
The award was presented to him by the Prime Minister of Uganda, Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja who represented President Yoweri Museveni as the Guest of Honor.
In her address, Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in safeguarding wildlife and natural habitats.
The award recipient, Dr. Rusoke expressed his gratitude, thanking everyone who contributed to “this milestone.”
Dr. Rusoke asserted that the “recognition is not just for me but for all the passionate individuals working tirelessly to protect our wildlife.”
He lauded the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife Authority, and Antiquities for recognizing his contribution, adding that, “This motivates me to continue contributing to coexistence.”
According to Dr. Rusoke, sustainable conservation practices can only succeed when communities are empowered and actively participate in safeguarding their environment, a move he has championed propelling him to this achievement.

Uganda joined the global community in commemorating World Wildlife Day which falls on 3rd March every year.
Under the theme; “Tech and Youth for Wildlife Conservation,” the national celebrations took place in Kyenjojo District, where Uganda showcased innovative technological interventions aimed at safeguarding wildlife. From smart monitoring systems to community-led conservation initiatives.
As part of the festivities, outstanding individuals like Dr. Rusoke were honored for their remarkable contribution to the sector.
On return, Dr. Taddeo presented the award to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jude Lubega who lauded him for “championing Human-Wildlife harmonious living.”
Briefly about Dr. Taddeo Rusoke.
Dr. Taddeo Rusoke is a distinguished fellow in the field of wildlife conservation having dedicated his life to safeguarding Uganda’s natural heritage.
He holds a Ph.D. in Natural Resources Management, a Master of Science in Environmental Health, & a Bachelor of Science Degree in Wildlife Management Sciences, from Nkumba University Uganda.
Through his book, ” Buffer Crop Farming Against Wild Animal Damage in Uganda”, he provides innovative solutions for conservation managers, practitioners, and policy makers on how to improve Food Security for farmers bordering protected areas through mitigating damages occasioned by herbivorous wild animals hence promoting Human-Wildlife-Harmonious living/ coexistence.
