New Students at the Entebbe-based higher institution of learning-Nkumba University, have been tipped on survival skills that will help propel them to success.

This was during the orientation exercise that officially kicked off on Wednesday 9th August, 2023 running through Saturday.

The exercise saw close to 500 freshers throng the University’s Mpaga Hall every day.

With Guild Parliament at center stage, the orientation was tailored to provide new students with essential information to help them settle into the University environment.

According to the Guild Speaker, Right Honourable Enoth Kakye, this is done at the beginning of each semester to provide new students with resourceful information including library details, classrooms and sports arenas, “We do this every beginning of the semester. The 28th Guild government welcomed new students on Monday 7th, and on Wednesday 9th, we kicked off a four-day orientation exercise that closed on Saturday with the orientation of the weekend students.”

This is done to help them easily locate classrooms, Libraries, sports arenas and places of convenience. Our goal is to ensure a levelled ground for academic excellence.

The orientation exercise which also provides an opportunity for the new students to interact with their senior colleagues and ask questions about the University experience allows an exclusive engagement with student leaders.

Speaking during the orientation, the Guild President, Toka Victor Given stressed the importance of University experience asserting that a wealth of opportunities for growth and exploration awaits them.

“Now, as you step into this phase of your lives, I want to remind you that this is a time of growth and exploration. You will face new challenges, make new friends, and gain experience that will shape you into the person you will eventually become. I implore you to embrace new opportunities, learn from your mistakes, and never stop growing.”

One of the new students, Olivia Namaganda, expressed her gratitude for the orientation session, saying, “I feel more prepared and less anxious now. The tips and advice we received today will help me navigate through my first semester at Nkumba University.”

Orientation activities included department-specific sessions, registration assistance, and more opportunities for new students to connect and explore the University community.

As the new students continue to enrol, the University is poised to ensure that all students have a smooth and successful transition into university life by providing basic guidance and support to enable them thrive academically.

Highly placed sources indicate that nearly 2,000 applicants attempted to secure a place at Nkumba University which saw a whooping 700 students successfully enrolling. This doubles last semester’s figures.

Since its inception in 1994, Nkumba University boasts of over 30,000 alumni with close to 2000 graduating every year.

At the beacon of academic excellence, the University has created an environment that fosters growth and offers abundant opportunities for students to explore their potential.
