Nkumba University Cleared to Roll out More 5 Academic Programmes

The Executive Director- National Council for Higher Education, Professor Mary J.N. Okwakol has written to Nkumba University’s Vice Chancellor Prof. Jude Lubega confirming the accreditation of new academic programmes.



The 2nd May 2024 letter confirms that the institution can now roll out 5 new programmes in nursing and Humanities.

“I am pleased to inform you that after due consideration, Council at its 75th Meeting of 19th April 2024, under Min. 594/75/2024 accredited the academic programmes indicated for the specified admissible number of students and the stated accreditation period with effect from 19th April 2024.”



The accredited programmes include; Diploma in Midwifery-Extension, Diploma in Nursing-Extension, Diploma in Midwifery-Direct, Diploma in Nursing-Direct, Higher Education Access Certificate-Humanities.


Prof. Okwakol further urged the University to implement the accredited programmes in accordance with the regulatory body’s guidelines.



Prof. Jude Lubega received the news with gratification noting, “It is pleasing to know that we have met the requirements and standards set by the national higher education regulator, I appreciate their promptness.”

“We take this accreditation seriously, and we will start admitting students for these particular programmes starting with our August 2024 intake.” He added.



NCHE will periodically review the implementation during their administrative and monitoring visits to the institution.

Section l l 9(A) of the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act 200 I (as amended) establishes the National Council for Higher Education as a body responsible for accrediting and regulating higher education institutions in Uganda. The Council oversees matters related to higher education, including accreditation, classification, and standardization.

Beyond the realm of academia, Nashonji is deeply involved in the governance of Airforce Senior Secondary School his Alma Mata, where he serves as a member on the Board of Directors. He is currently, the President Airforce S.S.S Alumni Society, President Samia Student's Association of Nkumba University and at the same time President of the Media Challenge Fellowship, 2023 cohort. "Opportunities multiply as they are seized and only dwindle when neglected."
