Nkumba University’s private security personnel have this evening apprehended Martin Muhereza, a suspected conman.
Muhereza was found within the university premises without authorization.
Preliminary findings indicate that the 28-year-old is an employee of Global Alliance, tasked with recruiting and training Nkumba University students on behalf of his employers.
According to Afande Isiko, several students have fallen victim to tuition scams through such schemes, “many students have reported cases of property and money being swindled, sometimes even their tuition fees.” Said Isiko.
By the end of last semester, security had made efforts to refrain conmen from entering the University by implementing tough gate pass identification measures. However, some have returned, adopting the ruse of pretending to be footballers seeking access to the university football pitch for training.
Muwonge Deus, one of the students who narrowly survived falling victim to the conman’s tricks revealed that the suspect had contacted him earlier in the day to arrange a business meet-up but he became suspicious and decided to avoid him, “he had said he would call me to schedule a meet up today, and indeed he called but I did not pick his calls because of the stories I have had about his company. “
Afande Andrew reassured Nkumba University students that the university’s security measures have been reinforced to counteract any threats to students and their property. Security has also initiated a manhunt to identify Muhereza’s accomplices within the university.
Global Alliance is a blockchain marketing company agency that recruits clients, promising them lucrative commissions under a pyramid-style point-gaining arrangement.
Muhereza has been handed over to Mpala Police Post for further handling.
