In the steadily growing landscape of women’s football in Uganda, Nkumba University forward Resty Kobusobozi is quietly but firmly establishing herself as one of the country’s most promising attacking talents, thanks to her eye for goal, discipline, and an unwavering belief in self-improvement.

The clinical striker, who features for Lady Doves FC in the Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League, has built her reputation as a dependable finisher capable of deciding matches, but behind the goals lies a story of sacrifice, patience, and a carefully planned football journey.

Speaking to Nkumba News, Kobusobozi attributed her progress to faith, hard work and the opportunities football has placed before her. “First of all, I thank the Almighty God for how far He has brought me,” Kobusobozi noted. “I have played football for several years, and I am proud of the achievements I have managed to register so far.”

Like many athletes who have risen through Uganda’s school sports structures, Kobusobozi’s football journey has also been closely tied to her academic ambitions. She revealed that the game has not only shaped her sporting career but also enabled her to attain an education through scholarship opportunities from secondary school to university. “Football has opened many doors for me. I have been able to study because of the game, and I have also travelled to places I never imagined I would reach,” she revealed. “I have met important people and gained exposure, which continues to motivate me to work even harder.”

Kobusobozi’s football journey has been punctuated by significant milestones that demonstrate her steady progression through Uganda’s competitive structures.

Her breakthrough moment came in 2019 when she emerged as the Most Valuable Player during the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) national championships in Mbale, an achievement that placed her among the country’s top emerging female football prospects.

Years later, her continued growth was recognized on the national stage when she finished second-best at the 2024 MTN FUFA Awards, further cementing her growing influence in the domestic game.

The 2025 season proved even more rewarding as she finished as the league’s top scorer with 17 goals, an achievement that highlighted her attacking consistency and earned her the Finance Trust Bank Player of the Month accolade for December.

Kobusobozi’s impressive performances inevitably attracted national attention, leading to a call-up to the Uganda women’s national team during the Africa Women’s Olympic qualifiers against Ethiopia.

For the Nkumba University student, the national team invitation presented the fulfilment of a long-held dream. “Representing my country was always part of my goals as a player,” she said. “I always believed that if I remained focused and kept improving, the opportunity would come.”

At Nkumba University, Kobusobozi has also been instrumental in strengthening the institution’s football profile, scoring important goals for the university team while balancing her books and boots.

Her performances at club level with Lady Doves FC have equally demonstrated her maturity as a striker, particularly her movement in the final third and ability to remain composed under pressure.

Kobusobozi’s rise comes at a time when women’s football in Uganda is gaining stronger institutional support than ever before. Historically, the women’s game received limited attention and resources, but the formation and growth of the FUFA Women Super League has provided a structured platform for talent development.

School competitions organized under USSSA have also played a critical role in nurturing players, creating a pathway from grassroots football to elite competition and eventually the national team.

Despite her achievements, Kobusobozi remains grounded and focused on improvement, noting that her ambitions extend beyond individual accolades.

She hopes her story can inspire young girls to embrace football not only as a sport but also as an opportunity for personal growth.

With her scoring instinct, humility and determination, Kobusobozi represents the new breed of Ugandan female footballers determined to push boundaries and redefine possibilities.

If her current trajectory is anything to go by, Ugandan women’s football may just have found another dependable striker ready to carry the game into the future.
