Nkumba University, Carinthia University to Explore Collaborative Opportunities

Prof. Helmut Spitzer from Carinthia University of Applied Sciences-Austria has held discussions with Nkumba University’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jude Lubega in a meeting that took place today at the VC’s Office, to explore collaborative opportunities that may be mutually binding for the two institutions.

Prof. Helmut Spitzer, a renowned academic in the field of Social Work observed that Uganda has a wide scope for research opportunities, an area he “would want to explore.” He eyes joint research projects, joint publications, and internship opportunities for students.

Prof. Jude Lubega welcomed Prof. Spitzer and commended him for showing interest in partnering with Nkumba University. He expressed optimism that “having an external eye can add credibility to Nkumba University’s research endeavors” and is therefore open to this opportunity.

The meeting was also attended by Dr. Anne Abaho, the Dean-School of Social Sciences, Dr. Bbosa Suleiman, the Director- Kampala Campus, and Mr. Charles Kagwa, the Dean – School of Commercial Industrial Art and Design, who shared insights and experiences on the current state and prospects of social work Education at Nkumba University and Uganda as a whole.

The two universities agreed to explore further avenues of cooperation that would yield a binding deed in areas of mutual interest.

Briefly about Prof. Spitzer

Prof. Helmut Spitzer is a renowned academic in the field of Social Work. He is currently a Professor at the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences in Austria with a wealth of experience in various fields of social work, including care for the disabled, gerontological work, child and youth welfare, counseling, and crisis intervention.

His research interests include social work with older people, the situation of older people in Africa with a special focus on the East African region, and challenges for social work professions.

Briefly about Carinthia University of Applied Sciences

Established in 1995 Carinthia University of Applied Sciences (CUAS), also known as Fachhochschule Kärnten, is a higher education institution located in Carinthia, Austria with campuses in Carinthia: Feldkirchen, Klagenfurt, Spittal/Drau, and Villach.

The university offers a future-oriented, international education in close cooperation with business and science. It comprises four different schools: Management, Engineering & IT, Civil Engineering & Architecture, and Health Sciences & Social Work. Simon Peter Nashonji
Simon Peter Nashonji
Nashonji Simon Peter is a dynamic and multi-faceted team leader, renowned for his exceptional interpersonal skills. Having graduated with a Diploma in Journalism, Nashonji is on the cusp of completing his Bachelor of Science in Journalism and Public Relations at Nkumba University. He picked his niche and started writing with Chimp Reports in 2018. Since then, he has authored and published over 500 articles that cover Business trends, Politics, Health, Sports, and Environment. To master his craft, Nashonji offered to volunteer as an Editor of Nkumba University's News Website in 2022, a position he has held to date. On 1st July 2023, He joined the Editorial team of Ubuntu’ Magazine, a Rotary District 9214 (Uganda and Tazania) Monthly News product. Beyond the realm of academia, Nashonji is deeply involved in the governance of Airforce Senior Secondary School his Alma Mata, where he serves as a member on the Board of Directors. He is currently, the President Airforce S.S.S Alumni Society, President Samia Student's Association of Nkumba University and at the same time President of the Media Challenge Fellowship, 2023 cohort. "Opportunities multiply as they are seized and only dwindle when neglected."
